Daily Summary: 22 May, 2020

Today was an interesting day.

I left the house and went into town for the first time since May 06. I’d gotten permission from management to go in to move some files around (a few terabytes) so I could move on with some work stuff that had been stalling from home since I needed the data. Where I work, we also have people in the office who take on various responsibilities to make things run smoothly. Like, someone runs a book club. Someone else is in charge of telephone training. I “get” to work seminar supplies.

That means that I’m in charge of ensuring that the office has munchies and drinks. Lots of cans of soda, lots of crap food from Costco. With the office shut down, meetings haven’t happened, and stuff goes stale. So, while files were transferring, I did an inventory of drinks and food. Surprisingly (to me), lots of food was still fine, as were drinks. I ended up bringing home a few dozen cans of Diet Coke, but that was the only drink more than 3 months past the expiration / best by / sell by date. Food-wise, I had to smell and taste lots of things that were border-line, or had been taken out of containers and left in bowls that were covered. That’s what led to the Fats in today’s summary infographic. I ended up bringing home a lot of pretzels, pub mix, and Oreos® for my chickens to eat, as in, several pounds. The Oreos® were the worst, where one box had expired in 2018 and the other 2019. They kinda tasted okay, but it’s pretty sketchy to be serving that and potentially a liability for the office.

What impressed me what how little I snacked on all that food that was in my office while files were transferring. And the car ride home. And while grocery shopping, I did not give unto temptation: I avoided the doughnuts, I did not get more Doritos® (I still have some at home), et cetera, et cetera.

I’m also caught up on my “count it forward” calorie counting I mentioned yesterday, so I feel better about that. Finally, with all the running around, I actually did fill my rings, and you can see by the steps counter that I walked >30% more than yesterday yet didn’t even do the elliptical nor walk outside. So, even though there’s no formal exercise so far’s my watch is concerned, I think I still did “okay.”
