Daily Summary: 16 June, 2020

Second day at my parents’ house, and I again was fairly good with calories, still under the 2220 goal, but percentage from protein was higher than from fats and carbs. Again a large variety of food to try to meet that protein percentage, so I had to shrink the food bars in the infographic because …

… I actually got in exercise! I apparently move around a lot more at my parents’ house than my boyfriend’s, for I already had about 12 minutes of exercise in before I started “official” exercise at 8:20pm, and I didn’t get buzzed at all (maybe once?) to stand at 50 minutes past the hour.

For my walk, I wanted to tackle something that, as a child, we always drove. I would bike down, but walk my bike up. But after all my walking at home on the mountain, I figured this would be quite easy. Or, not as big an issue. Over Thanksgiving last year, I was huffing and puffing bigly, and I had to pause a few times. Heading north first, downhill, then south back uphill, I was breathing pretty heavily, and sweating, but I managed to do it without pausing, and while keeping my pace at better than 11 min/km (the worst kilometer of the 5.1 km walk was that uphill part, at a pace of 10 min 55 sec per km). That’s better than when at home doing the steepest hills. But, this hill was not as steep and we’re closer to sea level, so 741 ft vs 6180 ft is a big difference when it comes to air.

VO2 max was slightly better, a hair over 32 instead of under. It’s still ridiculous that I’m 37 and have a VO2 max near the bottom of the “fair” range for my age group. I’d really like this to increase over the course of this fitness regimen. It doesn’t need to double, that’d put me well above “superior” even for men 20–29 years old. But, I’d like it to go up at least 40%. That would put me in the high part of “good” for men my age and move me to “excellent” when I turn 40 in several years.

So, I got back to my parents’ side street after about 24 minutes and continued south to an old schoolhouse that I used to walk to with my brother, turned around and came back. Stripped out of sweaty clothes, put on trunks, and swam/relaxed in the pool for 18 minutes. So, yeah, I got my exercise in!
