Daily Summary: 23 June, 2020

As I’m writing this at 5:30pm the next day, I’ll just speak quickly about June 23: Food was again good, sticking with the 1680 calorie goal, but again I was high on protein. That’s okay since I’ll be lower later in the week. Exercise was again non-existent which means I will not meet any of my exercise goals this week.

The reason? This review panel. NASA review panels are a bear to be on in normal circumstances: You’re locked (well, not locked) in a hotel with a dozen or so other people, and you meet starting early in the morning until dinner time, at which point you write your evaluations until past midnight. And, repeat. Those evaluations are then used to decide how to spend <0.01% of your tax dollars (NASA’s overall budget, but fundamental research proposals total just a small part of that).

Since the panels are now remote because of COVID-19, it’s the same thing, only the meeting is virtual. I’ve had slightly more breaks, but it’s pretty much mid-morning until after midnight, the shift to mid-morning because I’m on the East Coast this week and some folks are 3 hrs behind me. Fortunately, writing this on Wednesday, we’re now done discussing proposals so it’s all about writing and iterating, on our own time, but we’re still expected to make progress and be watching the progress sheet for go-backs.

So, hopefully tomorrow (*cough* today as I write this *cough*) I’ll be able to get some exercise in!
