Daily Summary: 04–09 January, 2021

Right … not quite “daily” at this point, but I think you can forgive me this week for being a bit, shall we say, “preoccupied”?

As noted in my last post, I did weights on Sunday (03 January). I suffered DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) Monday morning, and it lasted through Thursday, which is a long time. In addition to the DOMS, I think I noted that I hit my toe on the weight equipment. I should’ve checked it sooner because it was bleeding, and by mid-Monday it didn’t look so great, and it was causing some problems (pain) when walking. I cleaned it and dressed it properly Monday night, and by mid-Wednesday it was better (as in, no more pain and it looked better).

On Monday, I pigged out stupidly on chocolate and hadn’t intended to count it, but I still wrote it down so I went back and did put it in. Tuesday I stuck to things as I should’ve.

And then, Wednesday hit. As with most Americans (and maybe non-Americans?) seeing the armed insurrection and seditious terrorists invade the US Capitol Building was emotionally draining. To put it extremely mildly. I was glued to reading updates on five news sites for four hours, at which point I had a headache and took my blood pressure: Roughly 150/100. That is quite high, so I forced myself away from the computer and went for a walk around the driveway for awhile to calm down.

I declared a “Calories Don’t Matter” day on Wednesday and Thursday as a result. That means that I still wrote stuff down, and I counted the “good” things from it (protein, fiber, vitamins & minerals), but the calories, fat, carbs, etc. were erased. They are indicated in faint grey, italicized text in my li’l infographics.

I also tried a new recipe: blueberry boy bait. I used the Smitten Kitchen version, and I have to say I was not impressed. Possibly one of the worst things I’ve made from her. The blueberries all sank to the bottom and the cake / blondie itself was just really oily from the butter (2 sticks), almost like it had been fried in butter, like it had separated out. I have ideas on how to improve it, but I haven’t tried yet.

Friday went back to counting things, as indicated by the caloric high that day, but return to almost normal today, Saturday. Getting back to the routine of exercising is, as I’ve noted several times before, proving to be quite difficult.

That said, work-wise this week, I was pretty productive … until mid-Wednesday. But, Thursday through today (Saturday), I have probably done more cleaning than I’ve done the last few months. It was something that needed to be done, that kept me occupied and moving, that required zero thinking. While it doesn’t really look like I did a lot (always a problem with you have a large floorplan to clean), I easily spent >15 hours cleaning, including things like cleaning light fixtures, rearranging and putting away some kitchen equipment that’d been out for months, moving a computer system to a different room, and pruning back some houseplants that had gotten too gangly over the last few years.

So, I won’t say it was a horrible week for anything (other than our Democracy), but it certainly could have been better. I selected the “featured image” for this post with an especial meaning this time. To use an old gospel song: “We shall overcome.”

Finally, let’s have a look at the 2021-themed goals:

  • 0/2021 minutes core exercises.
  • 3/21 allowed days to exceed 2021 calories/day.
  • 34.8k/42.4k steps/week. [succeeded 0/1 week].
  • 42/2021 minutes per 4 months spent strength training.
  • 31.0/2021 km walked this year.
