Daily Summary: 10 June, 2020

Food: One problem with me and weight loss is that I like to cook. And I have a boyfriend who likes my cooking. And experimental baking. Or just regular baking.

Last week, I made four loaves of challah because I had egg yolks left over from the whites I was eating. Now, the one remaining loaf is hard as rock. Well, brittle rock, but rock. So, I opted to use some of it to make bread pudding. And so as of 3:30 this afternoon, I had four ramekins of bread pudding.

So, what’d I do? Well, I ate one. But first, I did all the nutrition calculations on it: 215 calories. I no longer had enough carbs left in the day, even if I cut everything out, to fit it in, so that’s why I went a bit over. It was surprisingly low enough in fat (6.7 gms) that I could just cut out my planned almonds and be fine on fat and overall calories. But, the macros are wonky today (see the bar chart above).

Now that it’s made, I don’t need to have another (though it was quite good). My boyfriend will eat the rest. Or, it’s still early enough in the week that I can fit it in on Saturday if I really want to. Because now he wants me to use the rest of the challah to make more tomorrow.

And so, I’m actually proud of myself: I’m still aimed for 98% of my calories for the week, 99% fat, 102% carbs, 102% protein, and a 30/35/35 split. Yes, those numbers don’t quite add up correctly: remember: there’s a margin of error and rounding issues; the calories based on macronutrients are 11819, vs 11559 based on nutrition data tracking … a 2.2% difference, well within my 5% of goals goal. In other words, I was able to fit in something I wanted, despite it being spur-of-the-moment, and only went a little over my carbs for the day but not the week.

Balance: Otherwise … best laid plans … . After over 6 hours of telecons all in a row today, I had trouble focusing on much of anything so I took a 2.5-hr nap. I got up and actually did more work for a few hours, then I exercised. But, I didn’t get in the core exercises this morning because I was going to do them during a telecon, but it turned out I did a bunch of other wrok-related stuff, instead.

Exercise: I still managed to get >45 minutes of exercise in, despite not feeling like it and dealing with work, so again, that’s something. My revised, more realistic goal right now, for this week, is to get at least ONE weight-lifting day in so that when I get DOMS, I’ll be okay as of next Tuesday when I’m at my parents’ house and try out the Bowflex. And to at least get a few core/bodyweight exercises in.
