Daily Summary: 18 June, 2020

Hmmmm… yesterday did not do me well with weight, weighing in this morning at 216.5 lbs. That puts me over for the week’s average, meaning I need to be below 214.6 lbs for Friday and Saturday to be at my goal. 🤔

So, let’s get this over with. Food. I kept calories lower than I allegedly need for maintenance and focused on getting a lot of protein. So, that went well.

Exercise. Because of a late dinner (I had my annual review after other meetings, so I started dinner late), I didn’t go outside to do cardio and it was too dark to go in the pool. But, I finally got downstairs to try out the Bowflex Revolution®. I was less impressed than I was when I tried it in 2018. Yes, it’s much easier to change weights because, well, they aren’t weights per se, but I had substantial issues doing the exercises I wanted. My circuit is a squat, bench press, bent-over row, overhead press, stiff-legged deadlift, barbell curl, and calf raise. Other than the last two, I had to find alternatives for all the others, and even then, there is no squat alternative for the Bowflex. My attempts to work with the alternatives did not at all supply the same kind of motion I had come to expect, and they were downright difficult with the kind of motion required by the setup of the Bowflex.

What I’m going to try tomorrow is, instead of adapting another circuit that was made for a barbell to the Bowflex, I’ll try something that they recommend for full-body exercise. See how that goes. Now, granted, I’m more than happy to not spend the money on the system if I don’t like it, considering how expensive it is even on the secondary market. The real big attraction of it for me is the lack of weights and easy of changing the resistance, since half my time on my bench with squat rack is changing weights and the setup. So, we’ll see. Oh, and my bf was also less than enthused, so again, if it’s not a system he’s going to buy into, then there’s much less of an impetus for me to get it.
