Summary of Two More Weeks, Feb. 27 – Mar. 12, 2022

“Nothing tastes as good as being thin!” —very unhealthy view of food, but I’m sure many of us have thought it

With that unhealthy viewpoint out of the way, where were we? Last I posted, I was most immediately concerned with the practically impossible goal of losing 3″ off my waist so I could fit into my pants for a meeting the following week, which was last week (Mar. 6–11). Obviously, I didn’t make it, so I bought my “fat pants” at Costco with a 40-inch-waist based on my 43.5″ measurement. Unfortunately, they were too loose, and they kept falling down in the back during the conference (I didn’t bring a belt, I didn’t go buy a belt). So, that was fun.

Going back to two weeks ago, I did surprisingly well with cardio, burning 2118 cal which is more than I have in a long time in a week … yeah, looking back, the last time it was higher (2259 cal) was nearly a year ago, the week of March 28 – April 3, 2021, when I was out of the house to escape “it.” Before that, it was nearly a year prior, the week of July 26 – August 1, 2020, just before I ran a conference, and a close colleague died the week after who was supposed to be running that conference, and depression set in.

Okay, happy thoughts …

I also did almost well with food two weeks ago. Like, really well, even at a going-away-party for a coworker (the person who hired me in 2014!), but then on Friday I fell off the wagon: I was at work in the morning, with the bf in tow, and we had doughnuts. And then got Thai take-out. I didn’t end the week too far off my calorie goal, but I didn’t meet it, I was way too high on carbs.

Which brings us to my conference. Per my introductory post, travel has been my go-to excuse for not being fit: I over-eat when away, I lose whatever habits I tried to start developing before, and it’s just disheartening in general as a result. So, I brought my fitness bands, I brought protein pancakes, I brought a pre-measured snack (gummy bears!!), and I brought protein powder.

And then they had Doritos out at the poster sessions. And garlic bread. And french fries. And full-sized candy bars. And bags of pretzels. And I was away so I ordered Domino’s® Pizza. Twice. And I actually attended most talks so I didn’t have time (or energy when done) to exercise.

So, how’d I end the week? I still haven’t guesstimated the breadsticks, KitKat, nor fries, but so far I’m at 126% of my calories for last week, running a whopping 175% of my carbs goal.

I mean, I was sitting in my hotel room on Thursday evening, after pigging out at a poster session on breadsticks, and I was thinking this: “I want the taste of Domino’s, but I shouldn’t have it, I already did. But it’s only 2000 calories, but I shouldn’t have it [pulls up order on phone] but it’s my last night here and I’ll regret eating all that [puts in order] in one night and I [enters credit card] really shouldn’t do this [hit confirm].” I’m sure some of you have done something like that before?

So, I got home Friday evening and had some lite soup, and Saturday I had Korean Fire Chicken (totaled 68% of my cals, 108% protein, just 34% fat and 53% carbs). Meanwhile, I found a new InstaHunk (shirtless guy on Instagram) who’s my new motivation.

So, I weighed in on Saturday at 228.7 lbs (+2.2 lbs from before the trip), and weighed in on Sunday (today) at 226.4 lbs (–0.1 lbs from before the trip). I’ve planned my meals for the week – bit high on carbs given a few dishes with rice on the side and a Jambalaya, but still only 94% of carbs are spoken for – and I measured out my allotment of gummy bears for the week (once I finish them, I don’t get anymore). I even used the ternary diagram to help figure out what to make.

I also think I’m going to try to do my daily tracking posts, since I did better when I did those. So … stay tuned for my next post in a bit.
