
One day at a time …
Today, I’d say I had two major wins. First, I was at the grocery store, and I walked by the doughnuts. Yup, just walked on by. That’s a big win for me. I pulled out every reason I could come up with to walk by, and I succeeded. So, that’s 400 calories I didn’t eat. Second, I was munching on those newly-purchased peanut butter-filled pretzels all day. I wasn’t going to count them. But, I did. I went 22% over on my carbs today (and 9% over on my calories) because of it, but I counted them and the one chocolate-covered caramel.
Two minor win addendums: I did not get Thai take-out while I was in town, and I modified Friday’s and Saturday’s food plans to actually make room for those carbs that I went over on today and yesterday. I should still be okay by the end the week on carbs.
Preamble aside, today didn’t quite go as planned. I did get enough sleep, but I still ended up taking a nap late this afternoon. My car was done earlier than expected so we got that before going to exercise; the bf went from there to swim, I went to finish the grocery shopping from yesterday (isn’t adulting fun?).
Then I went and walked by the paths where he was swimming, which I hadn’t walked before. Fortunately, the winter weather warning only materialized as cold, with minimal snow and none on the paths. So, I was cold, but not wet, until I started to sweat because the way back was a very slow burn uphill. Still, it was only 288 calories for 40.15 minutes of walking, which is near my low when I’m exercising in terms of calories per minute. The issues, I think, were two: First, I had my eyes closed and with all the gear I was wearing, I walked more slowly than normal; second, I clearly burn more calories per minute when walking where there are appreciable hills, as one might expect.
That said, my VO2 max was finally up today. I won’t believe it until there’s a decent trend, but it was nice to finally see that number tick up, albeit slightly.
It was a stretch to get to 720 calories burned today, making it only just before writing this post, a half hour before midnight.
And, I think that’s basically it. I didn’t do core exercises today because I was trying to finally finish up a large part of a small project for work, which I got through most of, but will still need to pick up the rest tomorrow.
Oh, something else to mention: Weight was up a bit this morning. So, that broke the streak, but completely unsurprising.
