Daily Update: 27 July, 2022

I don’t know what’s going on with my weight, it was back up today at 222.5 lbs. I am “supposed” to be down to ≤220.9 lbs right now under the revised –0.700% of bodyweight per week goal. It is demoralizing and I’m concerned it’s going to sap my resolve to “trust the plan” (in the words of the despicable Q-Anon conspiracy [Q-Anon is basically Scientology for dumbfucks]) and keep going, reminding myself that weight loss is noisy and one week is nothing in the scheme of months or years of fitness progression.

Okay, so, that aside, I made good on my promise yesterday that Monday was just a single rest day, and I hit the weights while lunch was cooking and then got the bf to come down to the mailboxes/street to do a walk with me because it wasn’t disgusting out. (And the rowing was a warm-up/stretch for the weights). So, I got a solid 640 cal burned from exercise, and I tripled my exercise Watch ring. Since I walked on the road where there were fewer hills, I finally got another VO2 max reading, and while it was down a bit, it’s still above where it was a month ago. As I noted when I jumped from around 31 to 35, I strongly suspected that was noise and I’d come slightly back down again. Still, it’s nice that it’s >34, which is what Apple puts as the threshold for my age/gender as “below average” as opposed to “why ain’t you dead?!”

Food was also pretty much spot-on, though confusing, so let me ‘splain: A calculate macronutrient goals based on my overall calorie goal, under the assumption that 1 gm fat = 9 calories and 1 gm carb = 1 gm protein = 4 calories. But that’s not exactly true. Those are round numbers, and they very slightly. I calculate intake based on labels and nutritiondata.com when building up my recipes. So, calorie and macro intake was based on those, and from them, I was at 97% of my calories, 103% of my fat, 103% of my carbs, and 102% of my protein. Not 102–103% of my calories because those =9 / =4 calories aren’t quite right. That’s also why I allow myself to be ±5% off before I consider it as missing my goal for the day/week/etc., because there’s some noise built into the system.
