
Not a bad day, I actually did stuff today for about 12 hrs. Like, stuff I needed to do, even if it was unrelated to work: Working on my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary present. And, in doing so, I received yet another massive kick in the butt to get more fit.
For their present (since I know they don’t read this, nor even know about it), I’m using some software I wrote a few years ago to make a photomosaic. That’s where you have one main picture, like of a house, and then you replace blocks of pixels with other images where the average color of that tiny replacement image is close to the average of the pixels that they are replacement. My first exposure to that was when I was in college (dating myself) when a photomosaic of then-Attorney General John Ashcroft made up of female porn was making the rounds.
Anyway, I have a few hundred photos of my parents, but I also thought my dad scanned a bunch of stuff in that I didn’t have, so I contacted him and got ahold of them. I found in there a folder of “Thanksgiving 2021” with a photo that included me, sitting, facing away from the camera.

And OMFG do I look fat. Like, giant. Like morbidly obese. Like, my loose blue shirt seemed to be struggling to contain fat rolls, and my baggy sweat pants were dangling below my knees so there was a continuous line from my butt to my cankles, making it look like my legs were wider than a normal waist. I showed it to one of my best friends and his response was along the lines of, “Well, I’m not going to lie to you, that’s a pretty bad photo of you.” The hair isn’t great, either, but that’s a separate issue.
So, yeah. Any desire I might’ve had today to try to cheat and that photo flashed before my eyes.
So, I didn’t. With food very close to yesterday’s, I was again low on fat, but I can afford that. However, I was working on the photos for input into the photomosaic code from 9 to 9, so I didn’t get down to the basement until about 9:30, so I did just do the bare minimum with exercise: 5 minute warm-up on the rower (with a new record on speed), and then weights, where I finally have started to increase the weight back up to what I was. Granted, it was just 70 → 90 lbs for most things, but I plan to keep going up every time now until I at least get close to where I was, or hit some significant form failure.
So, since it’s almost 11:00, and I’ve clearly killed my goal of going to bed by 9:30–10:00, I’m going to finish this up and go to bed.
Okay, now I’m posting this at 11:20pm and it’s still 80°F out. That’s why I did not even try to get a quick walk in just before sunset. Fortunately, today’s the hottest of the 10-day forecast, though there are still a few >90°. But the low tonight is still pretty warm at 72°. Sigh.
