Daily Summary: 28–29 March, 2021

Alright, let’s do this before it’s two weeks behind again.

I feel pretty good about Sunday. While calories were 60 high, I was still within my 5% allowance, and I spread my food very well over my macros. I also made an extremely small focaccia bread loaf – so small it was in a loaf pan. I’d been craving it for the last few weeks even though I haven’t made it in over eight years, but I figured if I made a small enough batch, I could fit it into my nutrition goals, which I did.

In the morning, before noon (well, starting before noon), I also got down to the basement and did weights. This follows from what I wrote in the last post that I see Sunday, and the whole week ahead, and I think that I can always just do the exercise later. No, doesn’t work that way. I really need to hit Sunday hard so that I start that psychological seven-day period with some momentum.

After exercising in the morning, I even convinced the bf to go out and walk with me, and we finally went back up the hill. For those just joining us, we’re in the mountains of Colorado, living on a dirt road, and basically the house is on a 10 km (9.6 km) loop that has around 800 ft elevation change from bottom to top. I did the loop twice last year, but my cardio has seriously suffered over the last few months, so that’s why we’ve been driving down to the mailboxes to walk on a slightly flatter road (though still get ≈75 m elevation gain). So, this marks the first time we walked up the hill since around October, which was nice. Granted, we were slower than before, though he needs to walk faster. My heart rate was easily +30 bpm over his. And, I got a VO2 max reading of only 31. He’s older than I, and his was about 42, “above average.” Me … mine is “low.” Joy. Anyway, working on that, so, yeah.

That aside, the exercise was 800 calories, the most in one day in months. I also did more than 4x my exercise ring and was just 40 calories short of doubling my move ring on my Apple Watch.

Which brings us to today, Monday. Food was again a bit high compared to the goal, but it will even out for the week (or, it should). I also have been feeling dry (lips) and headachey all day, so I suspect I did not drink enough after the exercise yesterday. While the temperature was nice and I could have gone for a walk if that was the only consideration, it was windy all day, with the highest gust clocked at 67 miles/hr. I used all those reasons, combined with really needing to get a paper reviewed, as excuses for not exercising today.

My goal is that within an hour of waking up in the morning Tuesday, I’ll do weights. I’m not sure about cardio given expected weather and my distaste of the elliptical, but with temperatures above 60° from Thursday on, I’m hoping to resume daily walks. Wednesday will be 48°, which is borderline for me, but I also have a dentist appointment, will be going grocery shopping, and we might be adopting one or two cats. It’s the bf’s birthday Thursday, so I should also plan in my meal forecast for a cupcake or two.
